Civilization V *twitches*

Civilization V is like crack. Terrible soul consuming crack. Especially when competitive friends are involved. I have put in too many hours since I bought this game.

It started with one person buying the game. And then his wife. And then two more of the group. And another. Finally I played the demo and bought it. Until finally, all 9 of us are playing this game. Wildfire, disease, plague!

Anywho, Civ 5 is onsale on Steam. 13$ (USD) for core game and all available DLC. All of the Civ games are on sale, too. (Bought Civ IV complete while I was at it.)

The other night I was playing a two v two v AIs with my buddies. It was myself and a friend vs ExtinctLife and my friend's husband. We were all pretty nice, trading luxury items and getting along. I took over Bismark because they were douches. Told ExtinctLife I'd help him with Greece whenever they declared war. Finally he declared war. Greece is stuck between ExtinctLife (northern) and myself (southern). So while he moves in on Athens at the northern chokepoint I take two of the southern cities and then swoop in with a footsoldier and literally take Athens out from under ExtinctLife (while he has been fending off the Greece army.) Needless to say, I spend the next turns at war with ExtinctLife and his player ally, defending my hard won Athens with bombers, until finally we can make peace. The best part was probably that ExtinctLife was playing Washington (America) and named all his cities after things like Walmart, Taco Bell, Mcdonalds and spread the religion of "Muricanism". Maybe I can get him to post a screenshot.

Haha sounds like great friendship-destroying fun :p

Never played it myself, but it reminds me of some Settlers of Catan or Risk games I've played. In my regular SoC group we have this shadowy organisation called the Black Hand. (only it's not that shadowy because it's always me and another friend (or two, if they're both present) lol)

Everyone still wants to win, but a victory for the Black Hand is a shared victory! In a SoC game on NYE (yeah, party hard boii) my Black Hand friend was in a hopeless position and basically handed everything to me so I could kick everyone else's asses, which I obviously did. Everyone was so butthurt about it, even though we broke no rules whatsoever. They were just being too egocentric to see that if they banded together for a few rounds they would've wiped the floor with me, but separately they were powerless to stop the Black Hand!

The Black Hand sounds like a super villain. XD "The Black Hand strikes hand! Alone we are powerless to stop him. Is there no hero that will come to our aid!" <-- comic news reporter voice.

I love Settlers of Catan! I keep saying "This reminds me of Catan... we should play that." But we keep staring at Civ V intently instead of getting up to play Catan. We don't have anything like THE BLACK HAND [/voice] but we do wheel n deal and make alliances that crumble two turns later. Backstabbery ftw! Almost as bad as Munchkins. Almost.

Haha sounds like I should give Civ V a go then. I'm not a fan of strategy games where you need to micromanage troops and resources (especially if it's RTS), but I love games like SoC and Risk, so if it's comparable, I'll probably enjoy it. Seems like a lot of fun.

Haha yeah, Munchkin is such a sweet game! Everyone backstabbing everyone!

I am currently playing as Japan, and Germany has been such a douche. We were fairly good friends, until I got word they were plotting against me. Was just gonna wait 'til they declared war on me, but got impatient and took the initiative. This, however, caused 3 city-states to get pissed with me and declare war because they were pals with Germany. So I take down a nearby Germany city, then poor Florence, who had declared war on me, was right under me. They honestly didn't stand a chance and I wiped them out and gain control over them. After doing so, I got a message saying "Florence is starving!" due to me pillaging their food supply while in battle. So I rush a worker over and have them repair everything I broke. Now I'm trying to plan my next move. Not sure if I should just stay and defend, or go out and start taking land.
