So once again a friend of mine and I have gotten board of all the other TCG's (or he simply refuses to play them) and have taken up Pokemon cards. Honestly, I always forget why I ever quit, until I'm reminded horribly that each new generation of cards spawns sets filled with pokemon I don't want to use, while the cards I've loved until now fall into the void that is created by the inevitable power-creep. Luckily the last few sets of cards have been doing their darnedest to include as many generations of pokemon into them, even if they stick to some of the more popular pokemon (I want my ^*#$ing Swampert and Beedrill already dammit). This got me to thinking though, who really plays the Pokemon TCG these days? As far as I can tell, there's a large enough following in the US, and it's common over on my countries eastern coast... but it's not so heard of around here. A few places I know have small local tournaments (some are official but still small and fairly damn local), and to my knowledge mostly populated by kids and young teens. My friend, myself, and another friend we dragged into it (he had no escape) are all fans, and enjoy playing most TCG's, however it seems there are few people our age who play anything outside of Yu-Gi-Oh (which we've abandoned for several reasons) and Magic (which they refuse to play). Perhaps I'll have to build a deck and check out the tournaments to make sure, but until then, I feel like an old man playing with kids toys. :P So who still owns or plays the Pokemon TCG? |

Never really played any TCG's, apart from Spacix back in primary school. (does anyone remember that?) I used to have a few pokemon cards, though. A few shiny/sparkly ones too :D But never really played the game. I gave them away to my oldest cousin back when he was into it. He's 16 now though. Do people still play this? I kind of had the idea that everyone pretty much got over them. I recently almost got tricked into building a MtG deck, though... Luckily I didn't go through with it. I'm poor enough as it is lol |

Magic is weird, and Pokemon is still pretty big actually. Mostly amongst youngsters but it has a fair enough older following. Last year's world championship was held in Hawaii! |
