On Tuesday I picked up my pre-order of Fallout: New Vegas for PC. . I was very excited to play it and when I tried to install it I found a string attached to it. Steam. Worst effin service in the history of gaming. It makes Live look like a worthwhile thing. After downloading the latest version of their software from their site i was shocked to find it updating upon running. It froze every few minutes but it was fine. Leave it all night its still not working. I go to a friends house and update it there. It manages on the third attempt. I try and run my now updated steam at home and keep on encountering more freezing. I manage to trick it into keeping most of the files it "updated" with while checking for more. It worked finally. With my now operating stealing pile of shit I try and log in to my account. 10 minutes later I'm still waiting. By the time it logs me on my friend will have downloaded the cracked version and I'll probably just use that. 50 bucks down the drain due to shitty service. Way to go steam, your a credit to wasting money. |

With a game as big as Fallout it would be stupid to think it doesn' t need a large amount of RAM and memory, but that is definitely too long of a wait. |

I've actually never had a problem with Steam or its games. Granted, I only buy games off it during midweek sales or their amazing Christmas sales. It'd be nice if games didn't have to have some attached service, such as Live or Steam, to make all the core functions of the game work. Should be optional for achievements and online profiles and by default turned off. |

I've never had a problem with Steam and I've a list of games I've bought that require it. I prefer Impulse Driven, or even a regular installer even more, but meh. The problem with a lot of things is that it's not the service like Steam, but more the game. There are millions of different computer architectures (everything that goes to make a computer a computer), and no two people will necessarily have the same one. Thus, as a developer, you have to design a game that works with this huge array of different pieces of hardware. Not an easy task. While you can make it work with all the different pieces as a whole, any particular configuration can cause even other problems. |

RAM is not what you seem to think it is... The game is actually one of the smallest I have installed. The game took most of the time"preparing to install" rather than actually installing.... I managed to get the damn thing to install. Cant play it cause Steam keeps freezing on me when I try and run it>_> I've also just plain old looked into the files of teh game and found no trace of an exe. "There's a very fine line between not listening and not caring. I like to think that I walk that line every day of my life." In my last post, I chose not caring, and therefore, not worrying if what I said made sense or was right. In this post, I chose not listening, so I therefore know I am right. Have a nice day. wss_joker |
