Pokemon Black and White

Am I the only one excited for this game? I've been following the updates on this site for a few months now. Looks awesome. I'm just disappointed that Zekrom is an electric type. Never been a big fan of them. Least it looks cooler than Reshiram. As well that the water starter is a damn otter. The glory days of the water starters ended with Mudkip. Can't till next spring. English release of the new pokemon and the 3DS.

so... U liek mudkipz?

Sorry.. couldn't resist...

Honestly though, after crystal, even though I love the pokemon franchise, i cant keep on buying the games... Not because they are too expensive or because of the increased amount of pokemon (as some people claim is why they don't buy), but rather because it is all the same thing!

You get a pokemon
Your rival gets/steals a pokemon
You fight your rival
You fight team rocket/magma/etc
you infiltrate the radio tower/rocket base
You collect all the badges
You beat the elite 4
You beat the secret side quest (like trainer red in gold/silver at mt. silver)
your rival "sees the light"
you wander the world, wondering why you tried to beat the game so fast

it just got so boring! I mean, if they could just shake up the formula, I wouldn't mind shelling out the money, but it's the same damn game!

Also, I would like if you could customize your trainer sprite...

One can enjoy the company of "mudkipz" without it having to end in intercourse my dear Chrono.

I like collecting the pokemon. Another thing I do is make a team of various egg pokemon and transfer them to a new game... which also helps me in my collecting.

Customization would be nice. It would also be nice if the pokemon would follow you again like in HG/SS. I also hope the grass starter turns into something cool... I don't want to deal with an otter or a pig.

I agree with this. From what I know, the only thing interesting about Pokemon games are the updated Pokemon, graphics, sound and places you can travel to. Other than that it's the same formula.

I stopped playing ages ago, but has the plot in the games improved?

I stopped playing handheld Pokemon games since... Crystal? Simply because I didn't have a handheld to continue playing them on. I emulated Grass Green (or whatever it was called) on my PSP and found it to be a great improvement over the old Silver/Gold/Crystal games.

I was also shocked and bewildered to see that in Platinum your 'rival' was all nice and polite and actually your friend. I didn't get far at all in that game, so maybe the real rival appears later.

But then I played Soul Silver, a remake of the original Silver. Still haven't got too far, but there are many graphical improvements as well as little things that have been added. As for the plot, well its a remake of Silver so they can't change that too much.

I have to agree though, Pokemon has been the same thing over and over and over again with only a few new things added to each game. And then came Pokemon Rangers, which I laugh at.

Anyway, not excited for Black & White. I miss the original Pokemon and the Second Generation. Maybe I'm just nostalgic. They should create an original adventure (aka, not a remake) with the original Pokemon and put in some sort of twist the Pokemon games have yet to experience.

That, and where's the Pokemon MMORPG with real graphics?

Pokemon MMORPG? I lol are you. Such a game would either be too small to be worth playing, or too large to run without mega lag. Sadly the chances of them changing the general gameplay of the pokemon games is very low and the best we can hope for are as follows:
1) 3D pokemon + battles
2) Total character customisation
3) A decent non-rehashed plot
4) A generation of pokemon that, by all means, put all other generations to shame

However, I will be getting either Black or White purely for the hell of it.

And why is that? They already have some classic style Pokemon MMORPG, with the gameboy type graphics. It would not be impossible to create a graphically impressive (at least in comparison to what we have) Pokemon MMO. If anything, it could be done in the style of Vindictus or Guild Wars. Towns are populated with players, but the world is instanced and you can bring your friends in a party to level Pokemon and catch them with you. In towns and stadiums you can battle, trade, and chat with other players. I'd prefer the whole world be wide open, maybe with loading screens if needed. Make the game subscription based, get a real good server, and have several server options for players to choose from so they don't all play in one realm.

But, this is all hoping and speculation. I doubt a real Pokemon MMORPG from Nintendo will happen any time soon.

I said I would pay for it, but that doesn't think I mean that it is worth it... I will buy it only because I have a deep seated reverence for the franchise... I mean.. I bought platinum when it came out... I just got a DS about a week ago... so... It isn't really about playing the games, it's about being an obsessive fanboy, really...

And so, it's worth it to you. Yeah, you don't buy it for the game (which is retarted in itself, but fine), but you still buy the game. The thing is still worth the money to you, which is also the signal you as their target market are giving the makers.

lol You're rather adamant about this Nommie. I thought Chrono's fanboism-oozing post was amusing. I also thought it was intended to be amusing. But if he is being serious, than there be may cause for concern. O.O

On another note Black and White looks graphically impressive as far as Pokemon games go. Vaster, at least. But why do they keep making stupid looking starter pokemon? The firetype is a freakin' pig and I think the water type looks like a snowman-creature. Ugh. Cool fire types died with Cyndaquil.

Even if that did make one like this the game itself would be incredibly vast and most likely lag like all hell. After all we have over 600 pokemon (as of Gen 5) all capable of having different move sets, abilities, stats, etc. That alone will make the game massive, but when you include all the basics like towns, player characters + customisation, NPC's, wilderness, battle mechanics + graphics, evolution mechanics + graphics, trade mechanics, etc, you've got something unbelievably large and complicated. Also what about finding wild pokemon and battling/catching them? You could have pokemon wandering around in the style of monster in other games (ie WoW), but that would produce it's own problems such as characters running through the middle of battles or attempting to battle/catch your pokemon/targeted wild pokemon mid battle. Trust me, the gameboyesque MMO that's out now is probably the best we'll get this century. *upset at seemingly slow rate of technological advancement*

However, I do wish I live to see the day.

On another topic, I agree with what you say about the Starters. However, I think these starters do look better than Gen 3/4. Asides from Turtwigs' evolutions and the Mudkip line we haven't had decent looking starters since Gen 2.

Also, the new water starter is suppose to be an Otter. The evolutions for the fire and grass starters are cool though.

The story is in a way, better than it has been, but there lots of holes in it that are just ridiculous. like an entire castle emerging from underground to engulf the elite 4 areas. The antagonists being royalty that isn't explained at all (what country are they from? they seem stateless to me. where do they get the cash and all the retards that follow them?). Why moar dragons? I guess the only real interesting thing about it is the simplistic clash of truth and idealism, and the fact that they look at pokemon like *-fights with trainers hurting their beloved 'friends' (read as pets and property). Other than that, more of the same old, same old= too many legendaries and dragons added. But there are a lot of fun new pokemon that have changed the metagame around a lot.

All that being said... I played it and beat the e4 and the main antagonists... and haven't played it since. =/

I actually found it really interesting that they chose to not include past pokemon... I mean, you only get pokemon from this generation in this game's wild. I have not seen a single pikachu, ekans or even ratatta!

And, despite the plot holes, the plot in Black and White is actually THERE! This is an achievement that the other games cannot really be ascribed. In fact, they often had a very simplistic plot (catching them all and beating the elite four with side quests put in (like team rocket/plasma/etc...) to satiate your appetite for variety.

In this version, however, you aren't pressured to catch them all or even beat the elite four. Those plots have gone where they should be: to the back of your mind. Your main goal in this new game is to stop your rival from ruining your world. In fact, you don't even need to catch a pokemon for it to register in a meaningful way in your pokedex (as the professor only checks how many pokemon you have SEEN, rewarding you when you reach certain milestones) and the Elite Four is just standing between you and your real goal (defeating your rival).

I was really afraid that they were just going to re-release the game, but they really fixed a lot of the problems that they had... And weather... *squee*
