As I wait for midnight to come, I figured I'd ask. I generally like holidays, even ones that aren't really about anything, but I know that a lot of people have at least one holiday that they can't stand. New Years is probably mine. Honestly, it's a lot of hype for something that isn't really about anything. I get the point: to celebrate the year that's past and celebrate the year to come and the coming opportunity. Awesome. I really need to stay up until midnight to say that the one day has turned into the next day, to say that time has gone by. Yay. How exciting. While I'm forced to stay up until midnight (I actually []like[/i] sleep and don't like being tired) I have plenty of time to dwell on the crap that's happened over the last few months and all of the things that are coming up that are going to stress me out even more. It's true that there are things to look forward to, but they just aren't as easy to see as the depressing things that are certain to come up. Halloween is a close second. I've never liked it. I've never really like candy anyway, so what was the point in walking around and feeling bad asking strangers for food. We give kids candy... but for what? They aren't giving anything in return, they're running around in diguises. It's basically a giant worldwide mugging... but with less violence and more sugar. Then there's the hyper children, the 18 year olds who go around for candy, the fear when you try to walk anywhere and feel like your being stalked, stuff lying everywhere the morning after... It's just no my cup of tea. |

Being a candy lover, I like Halloween but I can see your turn off. Fun to go out with friends and gather candy. Those who do not wish to participate may turn off their porch lights and, hopefully, not be bothered. Still, Halloween isn't exactly a favorite holiday of mine. Right now I'm really hating New Years because there won't be any mail delivered, and I want my freakin' mail! <.<; Otherwise, I stay up past midnight most nights so its no big deal or occasion for me. I still remember the first time I celebrated New Years though, fun times. Christmas is probably my favorite holiday due to the festivity and generosity of it all. Everyone, aside from those just finished shopping/digging themselves into debt, are generally happier around Christmas season. Also brings families together. Least favorite is probably Valentines. I see no need for it and nor does it serve me a purpose. Meh. |

I have had a single Halloween where I was capable of wearing a costume. Mostly I went as a dead snowmobiler seeing as how I had to wear a winter jacket anyways.I also had to be driven everywhere, not living in a town and all that. The one year where it was actually brown and not white for once, was my last year going out. Me and my friend blackmailed his sister into giving us half her candy n exchange for taking her around town. If we hadn't she'd have got none. hehehe... I mostly dislike the summer solstice and Easter. Solstice cause its my b-day as well and... well I dunno it seems like a conflict of interests for some odd reason. And Easter... celebrating the death of Jesus? Through the hiding of chocolate eggs? WHERE DID THE BUNNY COME FROM! At least with Christmas Santa has an origin, Saint NIcholas a real person. But... a bunny? Srsly? Also every holiday that does not result in time off from school. |

I hate all holidays, mainly because they're aaaalways related to religious purposes and I hate religion with a passion (I don't hate religious people though. <3 Nubi.) It does feel pretty good to stay home for the longest time, though. P.S. - Reli, you might wanna move to Portugal. We don't have Halloween :3 Edited by PainWhisper, Jan 1 2010, 06:12 PM.

I'm not really a holiday person so much. We've never been too keen on holidays in my house. It's the other regular days that matter most, I suppose. But my least favourite holiday would probably have to be Halloween. Primarily because it's not that big in Britain so when it does get celebrated it seems very forced. And I'm with Reli for the most part. I've never loved candy that much (or sweets as we call them here!) so it's never appealed to me. |

What is wrong with you people? Candy and sweets, in moderation, are delicious~ For my family Christmas is about Christ, but that has nothing to do with why I like Christmas so much. It's more the memories of when I was little when all my siblings were around and my mom would (and still does, but lesser so) go crazy decorating the house and the Christmas tree. That, and Christmas was the one time a year we'd get to visit my Grandparents and extended family. A lot of holidays do revolve around religion, but imo that shouldn't be the only reason to celebrate something. Maybe we should design our own holiday that does not have a religious background and we can celebrate it every year on HotN for the hell of it. [/stupidity] |

Technically I have a very large family. My Dad is African and on his side he has 11 siblings who have about 4 children each. But they're all over the place in Sweden, Kenya, Uganda and Australia. So I don't really know them. My mums family are all in the US or Caribbean so that rules them out. So I can't really say I have memories of extended families and such. Although I used to go to a friends house for Xmas but that died out after 7 or so. So part of me thinks I missed out slightly. Our holiday should be called Seto day. You know, for all the debuchery , sex, vices and shit. Like the Roman Saturnalia. You know it'd rock. |

Pfft. I already have the "feast of St. Mark" named after me. Read it up in a Catholic book or something like that. |
