I'm looking for a new metal band to listen to. I looked up some of my favorite bands on wikipedia and deduced that the main subgenres I listen too are progressive, death, sludge, and speed metal. I also happened upon the greatest title for a single ever, "Papyrus Containing the Spell to Preserve Its Possessor Against Attacks from He Who Is in the Water" |

That is the worst title for a song ever. Seriously. That is just awful. Metal hasn't been good in a while. It sucks balls. No new decent metal bands exist. The only ones are ones in the past like Tool. And even Tool sucks at times. Try The Crown - Deathexplosion. Edited by Setoshin, Nov 19 2009, 01:58 PM.

Yeah, inside those subgenres, there aren't many (if any) new bands that are actually worth it. You probably heard most of these, but here's a couple of metal bands I know and like: Dream Threater. If you can get past the vocals, the instrumental part is beautiful. Also, Kamelot has some progressiveness to it, and a nice sound. Sonata Arctica is a mix of speed/progressive metal with the usual North European twist, but I find them appealing in some of their songs. Angra is kinda awesome but they're brazilian, so you'd probably not like them because you wouldn't understand the lyrics. Oh and, Porcupine Tree. A metalhead friend of mine loves them, he says they're like, crazyawesomeshit. They don't really do it for me, but they might for you. |

Might be easier if you listed your favourite bands from those genres, so we might know what else you'd like and what bands you already know. |

Mastodon(progressive sludge), High on Fire(sludge), 3 Inches of Blood(speed), Into Eternity(all of the subgenres listed above), and Nile(death). I also like Rammstein and Disturbed. Dream Theater is the only one of those that I have heard of (DAMN JHU ROCK BAND). Angra seems kinda familiar but I`m pretty sure I`m thinking of someone else. Language doesn`t matter to me. I can`t understand most of the english bands anyways. Mastodon and High on Fire are probably the easiest to understand among those. |

Oh, Drowning Pool is awesome and they're similar to Disturbed. Dope is also great, inside the same genre. |

I got my friend to download some songs by those bands but he neglected to get any from Angra. I has dial-up so I kinda have to rely on him for any music downloads, so come Monday I can try those other two bands. I have a good feeling about Dope. I first heard them on Guitar Hero III just like Mastodon and they're my favourite band. Tool and Panic Attack are ok. Porcupine Tree is of teh epic suckzorz WTF IS THAT! Sonata Arctica is damn good. They remind me of 3 Inches of Blood, just softer and with cleaner lyrics almost like a fusion of into Eternity with 3 Inches of Blood. But with less screaming. Way less screaming... I miss the screams *sigh* |
