Heroes don't need super powers!
Been browsing the net, as per usual, found a couple bits of information some RTS / TBS / Classic Strategy game gurus here might like. I'm sure there are a couple. Although, it is likely this is either old news or you already own every RTS / TBS game in existence.

  • Command & Conquer Gold free Download - Awhile back the original C&C was released as a freeware download in celebration of their 12-year anniversary. This is one of the few downloads I can find of it. If someone downloads it, let me know if the game actually functions. Oh, and I read somewhere you need this LAN patch to play online/LAN or something of the like >.< PATCH

  • Ground Control has also been released as a free game due to the release of Ground Control II, which I'm sure is old news. Don't forget to grab the Key that goes with it. Should be painless, haven't bothered to download it yet. Although I might.

  • Rise & Fall: Civilizations at War is actually a pretty neat game I decided to download it. There are various campaigns and scenarios as well as a multiplayer mode I haven't checked out yet. You get to play as different civilizations and, like most RTS games, conquer. In game you can access Hero Mode, which always you to play as your 'hero' character (ie Julius Caesar) in an RPG style to complete certain objectives. There are some tutorials to get you started. The graphics aren't half bad, although the controls annoy me sometimes.

  • And this is just a free TBS game I know a couple of you are already playing. I've heard some good things about it. Seeing as half of HotN has already heard about it... (sad that about 3 members constitutes half of a forum's active population) ...Battle for Wesnoth

  • Savage: The Battle for Newerth free and pretty looking RTS / Shooter game. The screenshots actually look nice and it is free. And a combination of RTS and Shooting... Somehow. I think I'll try this one sometime. *piles up a list*

  • Savage 2: A Tortured Soul Second Savage game, also for free. ?

  • SAGA is a MMORTS game in which you build armies and conquer new lands, etc...

  • Glest - I actually tested this one, so far it works and isn't as bad as I thought it would be. If I decide to try and get the hang of it I think it would actually be rather fun. You can play single or multiplayer mode, however you'll need to know your host's IP address to join a game. There are two factions in Glest, the Tech and the Magic, each having their own attributes. You'll probably want to check out the Wiki Here if you decide to play it.
