Linnea was numb. It just felt so unreal. It was as if there was nothing to her anymore. Everything that Azuras hadn't told her about... well, everything, would remain a mystery... perhaps forever. Alexander Retrius was standing directly behind her. He was a shadow that seemed to loom over her head. He was a wonderful person, but he wasn't Azuras. Lerato was stronger. Only a couple weeks had passed since she first saw him on Redhaven, yet it seemed like he had grown up. He was standing beside Linnea, holding her hand and biting his other hand to console himself. It seemed like Lerato, even though he had never seen Azuras, would remember his mental touch, a resonance that he could not connect to a face, yet it was comforting. Linnea scooped Lerato into her arms, sneezing as she did so. Lerato raised a handkerchief to her nose. Linnea smiled and held him closer. Azuras may be gone, but she knew that she still had years ahead of her. Whatever come next, she would be ready. |

He had heard a whimper from a nearby room, which prompted him to rip the door right from its frame. A child sat, huddled in a corner, tears streaming down his face. His guilty expression furthered Drake's certainty that the child set the trap. He took a step forward, and the child hid his face in his arms. Drake stopped. He... He... He wasn't himself. He now realized this... He had ceased being Drake the moment he had been wounded. He straightened himself back up, regaining his composure and his control over his own body. He started back toward the child, outstretching his left hand (as the right was still hurting like hell). The look in the child's eyes, one of pure horror, didn't cease. He wouldn't have anything to do with the bloody monster that was Drake. Drake couldn't blame him. He would have to- The entire ship started to rumble and then a bright flash blinded Drake. The rest was blurry to him... ----- "He's not gone..." Drake resolved, "He wouldn't give up." He had seriously thought about not going to the funeral... It was a joke. Azarus was still out there and he needed to be found. The damage done by the battle still hadn't healed completely, in fact, many of the wounds that the child's trap caused needed quite a few stitches... The worst of which was the gash on his face. It traced from about an inch about his left eye and ended about three inches under his right eye. There were also a some wounds on her chest and arm... Drake gave a slight tug at his left fang, now part of a necklace that now hung around his neck. There wasn't any way of reattaching it after the accident, and unless these powers came with magical tooth regrowing ones, it wouldn't ever come back. As he watched the casket pass by, he faltered. Maybe Azarus wouldn't be back. Drake refused to cry. |
