Howdy all. As most of you may know already, I started a new youtube channel and recently uploaded the first video for it the other night. Running on the suggestion of one of our fellow members, I'm making a thread here to help me keep you all updated and to give you guys another place to discuss my videos and make requests/suggestions. Nubi, if this thread should be in another board feel free to move it. To summurise, the channel has no defined theme or focus. Instead my cohost and myself (mostly myself) are going for a General Interest angle which allows us the freedom to experiment with our content and make videos about essentially anything and everything that catches our interest. Eventually we'll also be having a podcast on the channel once my cohost sorts out his technical difficulties. Anyway, here are links to the channel and first video: 2 Pints Please Channel 2 Pints Please Pilot/Intro Video Extra! Like our FB page to keep up to date with all sorts of antics. Double Pint Productions BONUS: The bar location our videos are set in is owned and operated by our characters. It is named the Midnight Pint, and exists in an interdimensional space where it has access to pretty much every universe. This means we get a lot of whacky, wonderful, and outright weird patrons from time to time. :P |

Considering it's just an introductory video of who you guys are, I won't comment on the content. Regarding the form, I felt like you were both just reading your lines off a piece of paper. The interactions felt very scripted and wooden and sounded like you guys were reading the news. So I would definitely work on that and make it feel like a natural flowing conversation. Hell, you could use topic guides instead of written lines and just redo segments where you fuck up or where you forget to mention something. But either way, this will be a learning process obviously so keep at it. The goal is to not sound forced and to make it sound like an interesting, but relaxed conversation. The title of the channel and video already set that expectation for the audience, I feel. Keep us posted of new videos. Don't know if it will be my cup of tea, but I'll gladly chime in and give my 2 cents. |

Cheers. Yeah I've been told by one of my mates that I sounded like I was just reading off a script (which essentially we were) so I'm going to be working on that. I'm hoping to have the next video out by the middle of the week, or at the least the start of the weekend. A fair warning it is an opinion piece on an episode of MLP. I'm hoping it'll sound a lot better since I don't have to worry about coaching a second person through the script while I'm trying to read from it too. Looking into getting a friend of mine to listen to recordings I make to see how they sound, and if it's off or flat I'll redo the recording until I get it right. ^_^ |

Hmm. Might take a look at it later, offer some input. Not that I'm a YouTube vet, but I've some experience with recording and such. Depends on tired levels after getting off work. If not, then tomorrow.

Advice/suggestions/criticism have been offered. I have not taken all my own criticism (as I don't even have an intro for my channel) but a lot of this draws on not only my own experiences in YouTube but also multiple public speaking, instruction, and management courses that I've attended over the years. |

Honestly I've been told to not bother with introductory videos in the past, but since this new channel is going to be very loose/varied in what it produces I figured it was required to help people get an idea of what's happening. I've ready your feedback and appreciate it. ^_^ Right now I'm working on getting some extra art so that I can pseudo animate the character to give it more expression. |

NEW VIDEO HAS BEEN UPLOADED! It is the pilot to what will be the current main series on the channel. It covers a few things related to the series at the start, but I must inform you that the main bulk of the video IS related to an episode of MLP. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJa_u6EmyW0 I hope you enjoy either way. |

Haven't finished it, but considering form: your speech is a lot more fluent. There's still room for further improvement, but sounds like you worked on coming across more casual. Maybe that's because you recorded this by yourself and not together with someone else. It's a different dynamic, after all. So try to take this with you in your podcasts with your friend. So far they're not really vids. The screen is too static, which is fine, if you just want people to listen, but they're not gonna see the clips you put in then since they most likely will just keep it playing in another tab. If you want their attention more, make sure things keep happening on screen. Images, movement, etc. It can be as basic or complex as you want. If you don't want people necessarily watching the screen while listening, that's fine too. Content wise... I'm sure you expected this to some degree, but it's a children's cartoon show... jesus people. Why are you (or people in general) overanalyzing this stuff. It's not a cartoon show aimed at grown men or women. It's a children's cartoon made so that parents don't hate watching it along with their kids. That doesn't mean it's aimed at you. It's fine to like it. Hell, I love cartoons, even several children's cartoons. But I don't see a huge overly protective fandom obsess over spongebob. Overanalyzing and glorifying it's characters and storylines, critiquing the writers for writing an episode as anything short of philosophical treaties on life. It's a goddamn children's cartoon. It's very cringeworthy when you see grown men and women pretend like the writers are catering to them and not infants, as if the writers have to justify their work to them. PLEASE STAHP It's a cartoon about magical ponies. Yes, it's funny sometimes. Yes, I'd let my hypothetical kids watch it and I'll join in. No, it's not a abstract metaphyiscal critique on the human condition. /cringe I get that people get emotionally invested in what they like, but a healthy dose of perspective makes for a balanced time investment. |

Eh the content of the episode isn't gonna appeal to everyone. I've got a few more videos planned to come up, including a few video games and maybe an anime or two. Just need to decide which one to do first. I've got an artist working on a set of poses and expressions for a redesigned character art, so hopefully in the next month or so I'll have a psuedo-animated character in videos sooner rather than later. Also hoping to cut down the length of videos. |

Hmm you've got a good point about the title, I might have to go edit that right now... *runs off to do so* That aside, cheers for the feedback. I'm really hoping I get the new artwork before the month is over. I was also thinking of having the character model moved to the centre of the frame when I don't have any imagery/footage to display beside it. The audio, yeah the audio I realised afterwards was off. I'm going to have to look into how I can deal with that in the future. As for future videos? Well each video is only going to be focused on a single topic at a time. Although most people haven't made any comment about the length of this recent video I still worry it's a bit on the longer side, and will be trying to make them shorter wherever possible. As thus more than one topic would not only make the video seem unfocused but also needlessly extend the running length. |

Good to see you're still making videos. Sorry it took me so long to see it though. Bleh, work stuff is bleh. I'm not sure there's anything I can critique. I'm not a MLP guy, though I've nothing against the fandom as long as it respects that I don't care about it (same for any other fandom, for the most part). I got a third of the way through before I started having to force myself to listen. At the halfway mark I started wondering why we're having a 16 minute video on a show that has a 22 minute runtime, but I'm certain there's a distinct audience out there that really gets into analyzing things, and if that's who you're aiming for, have at the. As far as the audio goes, that'd be a function of your video encoding software, which might be able to autobalance for you or let you adjust volume for the individual clips before it's all encoded to the final format. At the least, it should let you adjust the encoded volume of the video as a whole based on different time segments. If you want to create a pilot for a series, unless you're going full animated series, the most you should probably do is announce it at the beginning that "this will be the first of my series about <thing>" or something. Calling it a pilot is a bit confusing, unless you're relaunching the channel or starting a new "season". Maybe if you add some people to the team. |

Cheers for the feedback. I'm taking forever to get around to making the next video (I'm my own biggest obstacle right now), but I'm hoping to make my videos sound less like a review/analyse than that first video, as well as shorten the length of them greatly. Just not sure how to do that. |

After spending two months agonising over making one video I finally scrapped it in favour of doing something productive for once! Presenting my secondary series for the channel, "In the ViP Room!". An interview series where I casually ask content creators about what they do, why they do it, and where people can go to see the stuff they've done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZsDe-Td-dU |
