So, a buddy of mine mentioned Skyrim today, and I'm all sittin here like "I need something to play", and it clicked: Lets mod the snot out of Skyrim and play that! Fun tidbit, I've never seriously modded skyrim, though I've played it to completion at least twice, and logged 86 hours in thus far (which means it has nothing on the 534 hours I've logged in Civ V). That said, I am aware it has an active (ha, understatement) modding scene, and googled up "Skyrim mods". I'm less than 15 minutes into this rabbit hole and I've already got about 30 tabs open for different mods that look interesting and I'd like to try. Anyone have recommendations of things I should throw on this list to install mod-wise? |

Nude mods! Nude mods! Also the cursing mudcrab one. It's hilarious. And if you're playing on pc then you need the improved UI mod. It makes such a difference for pc gamers. I haven't played Skyrim in a while so I forgot about most mods I used but I do remember the rabbit hole... There's just no end to it. The modding itself becomes the game and you barely get any actual playing done once you get started on it haha That said, Bethesda has the best modding communities. |

If I can find the name of it there is a superb (hearsay) content mod you might check into. Falskaar, I believe. When I modded Skyrim I did mostly visual updates, as I didn't want to adjust the gameplay itself too much. I added foliage and color, improved the lighting, improved the skybox, improved the water, improved the textures of the environment. Unfortunately I don't really remember the names of the mods and it's been awhile so some are probably out of date. But there is a particular term that encompasses all sorts of environment improvements: "ENB". Visual mods brought the game's polish up quite a bit and felt like a more beautiful and diverse world with less gloomy-grey art style. Which I am aware was a stylistic choice, given the region, but my own preference is having various shades of green and lush foliage in an environment. And on the topic of Skyrim, I have yet to beat it. I bought it launch day and played it for 60+ hours, and never beat it. In fact, I only recently made an attempt to play through the story and got as far as actually meeting the "good" dragon on top of the mountain before I squirreled and started playing something else. I think most of my gameplay hours are dedicated to wandering around and stealing things -- I don't even think I completed iconic quest lines like the Civil War or becoming a Werewolf or being part of the Dark Brotherhood. |

Fun fact (if this somehow passed you by), the "good" dragon up there is voiced by Charles Martinet (AKA the voice of Mario). |

I didn't realize that was the same voice actor. Reading his synopsis of known for it's all these Mario characters and suddenly "Paarthurnax, the Dragon". Apparently he's done quite a bit in other video games too. Neat. I downloaded Skyrim again last night. If I still have my save files I will try and beat it as it is quite a shame I haven't done so in 4 years. Here's to hoping I backed the saves up or Steam did for me. |
